I have been riding horses since I was 11 years old, and was always the one called upon to start the young horses that arrived at the yard where I spent my early years.

I began studying horse behaviour in 1998 after my young horse developed behavioural issues on the ground. William was born at the yard I was working on, and I had looked after him since the day he was born. By the time he was 3 years old, it was clear I hadn’t instilled ground manners as he would regularly get away from me when coming in from the field, even getting to the stage he would charge at me in the field so I wouldn’t catch him. I am not one to be defeated, but all my previous knowledge was clearly not working or helping either of us. I knew I had to find another way.

Natural Horsemanship has really helped me understand why my horse was behaving this way and what I needed to do to make handling and being around him a safe activity. From then on, I went to plenty of clinics and have spent 1000’s of hours watching, studying and learning how to connect with the horses and how to help them find safety and relaxation within various situations.

Over the years I have been to clinics with experts including Steve Halfpenny, Mark Rashid and Manolo Mendez. All have taught me the importance of time and patience, to look at the horse as a whole - physically and mentally - and how helping the horse find relaxation not only improves their temperament but also helps them physically enabling them to work in a relaxed state, This helps muscle development and a correct way of going.

I work in this way with young horses that are ready to start their ridden training, making it as stress free as possible for them. I can also happy to work with any horse that has existing behavioural issues that need to be addressed.
